"Building-Sized" Graphics Print Email

Meredith Corporation, publisher of Better Homes and Gardens and Ladies Home Journal, had a rather revealing problem.

Their Des Moines, Iowa headquarters was built with a 70 foot by 28 foot glass wall over a concrete stair well. Lots of light, but not the most attractive image to be displaying to the city's western downtown gateway.

Meredith Corp. building seasonal display banner

The solution to Meredith Corporation's inadvertently bland glass wall came from Beeline+Blue. At the beginning of each season, Beeline+Blue prints a 70 foot high and 28 foot wide digital photo to cover the glass wall. The image is printed on perforated window vinyl, allowing light into the stair well, but presenting a solid image to the city's visitors.

Every season a new photo from Meredith's immense archive is chosen and the choice creates a good deal of attention for Meredith. The image for each season is a Meredith Corp. display installation closely guarded secret and is often the subject of speculation and coverage on local TV and radio stations when it is time to replace the graphic.

The immense photo is applied in twelve 35 foot long strips and must be printed and installed seamlessly. High winds and fluctuating temperatures present particularly tricky problems during the installation. Strong winds can whip the long sheets of vinyl, making accurate application difficult. If it is too warm, the material stretches making alignment of the panels almost impossible.

There is always a fair amount of nail biting with every new installation, but as Meredith Corporation and all Beeline+Blue customers have come to expect, it always goes up and looks great.
